Fire Station

A trip to your local fire station is a great way to spark the “what do you want to be when you grow up” conversations. Teach your children about fire safety and firefighters by visiting your local station. Most kids (especially little boys) are fascinated with fire trucks, fire stations and firefighters. Drop-in visits are not encouraged since this is a job that requires quick reaction by the emergency personnel, some stations have special days or programs that you can attend. Others will open their doors to you same day; either way, you want to be sure you visit them during business hours and when they are able to take the time to show you around. Most tours give kids a glimpse into what goes on behind the scene. The kids may get a chance to take an up-close look at all of the equipment they have on the fire truck and sometimes get to hop in the engine seat for pictures. There are lots of benefits to visiting the fire station, but the biggest is letting the children see a firefighter in their full gear, showing your child what a firefighter looks like fully dressed is a great way to prepare if a fire or emergency ever happens in your home.

Call your local fire station and see if you can schedule a tour!
There are likely several in your community, and at least one within walking distance of your home.
